Case Studies

Previous Kitchens

Granite Worktop Titanium Granite

A statement granite giving the complete WOW factor. Perhaps high in scale but the movement and depth are typical of the beauty of natural stone. Here the island is the showstopper with an 80mm mitred apron to give the impression of a thicker slab, with mitred waterfall legs and front panel. The worktop run and wall cladding in contrast are 20mm depth, but the kitchen expertly fitted so the heights of the worktop and island are level. It’s all in the planning

Practical, durable, and easy to clean, although it should be noted natural stone is porous. We seal the stone before it is installed but sealant wears away over time and will need to be resealed to prevent staining. A simple job that will take an hour or two, approx. once every 5-10 years. A very small price to pay for nature’s own creation.

Profile Quartz Worktop Artemistone

Artemistone Calacatta Oro Quartz. A bold vein design but with subtle colouring which is the best of both worlds. A statement stone but soft calming tones, a real winner which is a trend that is here to stay and won’t go out of fashion. Here there is a double ogee profile achieved by using 30mm worktops with a 20mm apron. The overall depth appearing a substantial 50mm – a gorgeous feature and goes so well on traditional kitchens.

Here the client opted for wall cladding, giving the WOW. A great feature and so practical – no more finding another material to mix & match and an easy wipe down. Keeping grout clean a thing of the past. 20mm stone is used for wall cladding. In your design particularly with gas hobs you must ensure there is a minimum100mm from the surface of the stone cladding to the edge of the gas burner to avoid discolouration of the stone.

Replacement Quartz Worktops

Our client chose to replace the high maintenance wooden worktops. Having moved into the property, it made economic sense where the kitchen was fine and given the confines of the space any knew kitchen would have the same layout simply to replace the worktops giving the kitchen a whole new look.

Whilst she had considered quartz overlays, she was pleasantly surprised when she visited us, she could get completely new quartz worktops significantly cheaper than the overlays but with the same convenience. We templated with her worktops in situ but with her new sink on site, so she had her working kitchen whilst we fabricated the stone. On the day of installation, we removed and disposed of the old tops, installed the new 30mm Picasso Statuario Modern quartz worktops and plumbed in the new sink & tap and reconnected the existing electric hob.
Replacement worktops simply make sense. Give your kitchen a whole new lease of life.

Fitted Quartz Worktop London

iStone Snow White Onyx Quartz (30mm), a stunning contrast against the black shaker style door. The worktops giving a modern feel to a traditional style. A great example of mixing the old with the new.

The island has a 300mm overhang along one side and one end providing seating for six. An amazing social space, practical in its durability and easy to clean. With a common-sense approach of using a chopping board and trivet, it will look just as fabulous in 20 years’ time.

Have a question?
Check out the FAQs

Here are some questions that clients ask, if you can't find answer here please get in touch or come visit us at the showroom.

WHAT IS GRANITE AND QUARTZ?

Both are stone. Granite is quarried from the earth and cut into slabs. Every slab has its own natural pattern, with speckles, veins, colour variations. Quartz on the other hand is made from quartz crystals combined with resin and pigments. This allows manufacturers to create consistent colours and patterns.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF GRANITE OR QUARTZ WORKTOPS?

Stone surfaces are exceptionally durable. They resist wear, scratches, stains and heat. They are easy to clean & care for and are hygienic. Other than the practicality and convenience which is especially important, they have a great aesthetic and beauty giving your kitchen the wow.

HOW DO GRANITE & QUARTZ DIFFER?

They are both equally fit for purpose. Granite being a natural stone is porous which means it will need to be re-sealed over time – this may be every 3, 5 or even 10 years depending on the density of the stone. A simple job. Granite is more heat resistant as unlike Quartz it does not contain resin. Price can be comparable, but pricing does vary considerably depending on stone selection and in the case of quartz the brand too.

WHAT IS RIGHT FOR ME - GRANITE OR QUARTZ?

Choose granite if you love natural stone and unique patterns and want better heat resistance. Choose quartz if you want a consistent clean modern or marble-effect look with minimal maintenance.

Whether you choose granite or quartz we recommend you use a chopping board and trivet.

For most busy family kitchens, I'd lean towards quartz for convenience and easy maintenance. I'd choose granite for natural beauty and superior heat resistance.

APART FROM GRANITE & QUARTZ ARE THERE ANY OTHER MATERIALS TO CONSIDER?

Natural stones such as Marble & Quartzite at the two ends of the hardness scale. Both are stunning in their beauty and can be used for worktops. Definitely preferred by designers for their visual impact. Marble is a soft stone even with regular sealing will scratch, stain and form its own patina over time. This can be a plus for some. Quartzite is less maintenance than marble (on a par with granite) but generally is more expensive than Granite & Quartz.

Marble is prized for its elegant veining, while quartzite is generally the better choice for durability and everyday kitchen use.
